About Us

The purpose of the Sons of the American Legion is to honor the service and sacrifice of Legionnaires. The SAL is divided into detachments at the state level and squadrons at the local level. The SAL is one branch of the Legion Family and although the SAL has its own membership, they are not a separate entity as the SAL is a program of the American Legion. However, squadrons can determine the extent of their services to the state and nation. They are permitted flexibility in planning programs but must ensure they keep aligned with the SAL mission. Therefore, the emphasis for the squadrons is to preserve American traditions and values, improve the quality of life for our nation's children, caring for our veterans and their families, and teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship.
