The purpose of the American Legion Riders is to gather motorcycle enthusiasts from the local post to ride together as Legion family. Each chapter manages its program at the local post level and is comprised of Legionnaires, SAL, and ALA members.
The Riders program is well known for their charitable work which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local children's hospitals, schools, veterans homes, severely wounded servicemembers, and scholarships. Annually since 2006, nationwide Riders participate in The American Legion Legacy Run which raises money for the Legacy Scholarship Fund. This fund was established to provide scholarships to children of U.S. military personnel killed since September 11, 2001.
